Student Leadership Advisory Board

The Student Leaders Advisory Board (SLAB) is an organization comprised of the presidents of all RSOs in the COB. SLAB’s purpose is to share the student perspective with the Dean of the COB. They attend monthly meetings with the dean or other college leaders about issues within the COB that concern current and prospective students.

    Peter Behling

    President

    Peter Behling is a senior majoring in Business Information Systems with a minor in Analytics. Peter began his education at Illinois State University in Fall 2018 and has enjoyed being a part of College of Business RSOs ever since his first semester on campus. Once arriving, he immediately joined the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and has held positions within it such as Vice President of Communications. He joined the Business Week team his second year and served as the Professional Development Dinner Coordinator and has held other positions across campus such as Campus Ambassadorship Team Leader for Adobe at ISU, and is the Campus Representative for Universal Studios.

    Outside of RSO involvement, Peter currently serves as a Business Operations and Analytics Intern at the ISU Career Services Center where he enjoys engaging with students looking to pursue their careers and finding ways to help Redbirds get connected to the opportunities ISU provides. Peter’s most recent internship has been as a Business Systems Analyst with the company Atlassian where he helped migrate business processes to a new integration platform and helped document all finance system connections between platforms. Before Atlassian, he interned with IBM as a Summit Program Intern where he developed online resources for sellers to boost their aptitude and knowledge of their practice.

    Peter is incredibly excited to be leading the College of Business for the 2021 – 2022 academic year and is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the COB during his last year on campus. As COBEC President, Peter hopes to encourage COB involvement among students and a hopes to promote a safe, strong return to campus that students and RSOs feel confident and inspired about.

    Jennifer Cappello

    Vice President

    Jennifer Cappello is a Senior double majoring in Finance and Risk Management and Insurance. Jennifer started her journey at Illinois State University in 2018 and joined Delta Sigma Pi her first year student year. Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity that Jennifer attributes much of her personal growth too. Jennifer served as the Vice President of Chapter operations for one year and also served as the ritual chair and apparel chair. Jennifer joined Gamma Iota Sigma her junior year where she has had the opportunity to learn from professionals in the field and learn about the insurance industry.

    Outside of the College of Business, Jennifer has worked at Young America Realty as a licensed leasing agent during her sophomore and junior year. In this role she developed many of her professional skills. She has also interned for Zurich North America as an Operations and Technology services intern. In this role she analyzed data and found ways to improve the operations and technology that Zurich underwriters utilize. Jennifer will continue her internship with Zurich North America through the school year.

    Jennifer is excited to serve as the Vice President of the College of Businesses Executive Council and is grateful for the opportunity to help other students in the College of Business. Jennifer initially learned about the College of Business Executive Council through her peers in Delta Sigma Pi who served as President and Vice President in the past. Jennifer hopes to grow student involvement and encourage collaboration within the College of Business. Jennifer truly believes student involvement in RSOs is an integral part of success among students in the COB and hopes others can grow and learn from their involvement as well.

    Christian Lewis

    Activity Coordinator

    Christian Lewis is a senior majoring in Information Systems - with a focus in Systems Development. Christian began his education at Illinois State University in Fall 2019 after transferring from Indiana University and decided to get involved with a professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi in the spring of 2020. Since becoming a member, he has held the position of IBFC chair and Pledge Ed.

    Outside of Christian’s on-campus involvement, he recently interned at DHL Supply Chain in the Operations/Inventory Department of the Consumer sector. There he worked to improve upon the certain procedures and operations as well as come up with multiple ways that the company could decrease employee turnover within the supply chain industry. By doing that, he became exceptional using different industry specific systems.

    Christian is very excited to serve as the new Activity Coordinator of the College of Business Executive Council and gain new experiences within the COB. He is looking forward to using this opportunity to continue fostering relationships with different RSO’s and help more students get involved.

  • Lauren Herrig

    Secretary

    Lauren Herrig is a junior double majoring in Marketing and Management with a sequence in Professional Sales and Small Business Entrepreneurship, while also pursuing an Organizational Leadership minor. Lauren will graduate from Illinois State University in May of 2023. Lauren’s college of business involvement includes serving as the Vice President of Communications for the American Marketing Association, as well as, serving as a Group Leader for the registered student organization Women in Business. She was recently inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society which is a prestigious society that only accepts 10% of College of Business graduates.

    Lauren’s other campus involvement includes being a part of the University Scholar’s Association and an active member of the University’s Honors Program. She is a member of the philanthropy group Big Brothers Big Sisters and continues to volunteer at the Midwest Foodbank in the Bloomington-Normal community. In the summer of 2021, she received a sales internship with Brand 2306 which is a division of Xpac. Xpac or “export packaging” is a full-service logistics provider who offers a complete line of packaging solutions. She plans to pursue a sales career upon graduation.

    Lauren is extremely excited to be COBEC’S Secretary for the 2021-2022 academic year. She hopes to promote a positive environment for the college of business students, registered student organizations, and faculty. She is committed to promoting further collaboration between these groups and increasing student involvement.
